I Broke Connman, WiFi No Longer Works
I did a routine update on my laptop a week ago, and there was a message/notice that something wasn't replaced or was missing, and I didn't know what it was so I ignored it. And now Connman won't connect to WiFi any more (but I can get onto the internet by plugging a cable to my modem). Connman scans and finds my WiFi, but when I try to connect, it says, "The agent request failed before a reply was returned."
I tried reinstalling Connman, but that didn't help. I read that some people use wicd instead, so I tried installing that with the antix package installer, but it brings up the terminal, which closes immediately without installing it, and I can't find it in Synaptic Package Manager.
Is there a way to check logs of past updates to see what the message/notice was? Then I might be able to google a solution.
I'm running antix-21, 64-bit.

Re: I Broke Connman, WiFi No Longer Works
As davidy says, fresh install unless you have adopted the suggested strategy of a regular Timeshift and/or snapshot/liveusb backup.
Re: I Broke Connman, WiFi No Longer Works
Wicd was available for the previous Debian releases (sadly not on Bullseye, Buster for the last time.).
Since you can connect via cable, actually ConnMan works.. just there's something else with the wifi part ...
Have you tried this?
Also it'll be better if you provide your system info, at least inxi -Fxxxrza within code tags.

Thanks; I didn't know how to do this with antiX.Also it'll be better if you provide your system info, at least inxi -Fxxxrza within code tags.
Code: Select all
$ inxi -Fxxxrza

Did you try removing (deleting) your wifi and then rescan and reconnecting?
You can use the gui (icon on the panel).

Re: I Broke Connman, WiFi No Longer Works
Just noticed your system temps (Sensors: System Temperatures: cpu: 94.2 C mobo: N/A gpu: amdgpu temp: 94.0 C) they are what I would consider on the high side of normal. Whether this has any kind of ripple effect on your networking I have no idea but I thought it worth a comment. Maybe you had been doing some heavy gaming or other intensive computing when you ran the QSI? Beyond the hoped for solution to your networking issue, I'd suggest you might closely monitor those temps because sustained high temp over time might not be the best thing for your computer's health.

Yeah. I'd run sensors.
Like mentioned above. Your amd gpu is cooking.
Code: Select all
harry@antix1:~

Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +42.0°C
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter

Core 1: +43.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
BAT0-acpi-0
Adapter: ACPI interface

As far as the laptop temperature, I'm not surprised that it runs hot. It's a cheapie I bought new a couple of years ago to play around with, I wanted something inexpensive to try some Linux distros on. But, even when it was new, the processor can't handle much, so it couldn't run much of any Linux OS's. That's why I run antiX on it, and it works great with antiX.
My good laptop uses MX-Linux; this cheap laptop is my travel laptop because I don't care so much if it gets beat up. But without WiFi, it's not much good for travel.

Re: I Broke Connman, WiFi No Longer Works
Cheap or otherwise, I am puzzled that it is reporting such high temps. However, I suppose if it doesn't bother you there's not much point in you further fault finding. Has it perhaps got dust and other grime in the case? Just seems it's very hot. Don't burn your fingers
