18 Nov 2022 Is antixforum down?

#1 Post by stevesr0 »

Since last night, I can't access the antixforum. The request times out with a server not responding error. Is it down for everyone?

No I can access to the antiX forum from my area (France).
It is "funny", I have exactly the same problem with the MX forum (since 10 days) and I do not know why.
I can only access from my area here via a VPN with a Firefox addon : (firefox/addon/browsec/)

https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic ... le/page/3/ (but you can not probably go here too for the moment)

... So maybe you can try a VPN addon workaround, to see.

Hi oops,

Thanks for the response. I tried to use the link you provided. It is just working, working, working...

I am in the U.S. Where are you located?

I will try the VPN addon if the site continues to be unavailable.

... I am from France, but with the VPN addon here (for the MX forum) from Netherlands.

To test the DNS:

Code: Select all

dig a antixforum.com.
...
;; ANSWER SECTION:
antixforum.com. 3453	IN	A	70.32.23.120

# and to see the ping antix forum response:
ping 70.32.23.120
PING 70.32.23.120 (70.32.23.120) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 70.32.23.120: icmp_seq=1 ttl=53 time=130 ms
64 bytes from 70.32.23.120: icmp_seq=2 ttl=53 time=130 ms

Hi oops (and anyone else reading).

I found that the problem is specific to my cable connection. My neighbor on the same subnet of our ISP was able to connect AND I can connect via my phone cellular data connection.

The most likely thing (I believe) is that the antiX security software decided to "ban" my ip address.

If nothing changes, I will see if a VPN gets me connected (displaying a different ip address).

Otherwise, I have to try to figure out how to analyze what happened in my network configuration that is causing my system not to connect (ping or browser) to antiXforum.com.

No other sites are apparently affected at this time.

Just tried to ping the ip address - just sits there (PING 70.32.23.120 (70.32.23.120) 56(84) bytes of data.)

So not a DNS problem.

Hi stevesr0,
"My neighbor on the same subnet of our ISP was able to connect"

... Probably your neighbor do not have the same @Public IP and/or @Mac address.

@stevesr0 I'm in the US (west coast) and can access the antiX forum. My router is configured for Cloudflare's DNS servers.

Code: Select all

ping -c3 antixforum.com
PING antixforum.com (70.32.23.120) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from mi3-ss106.a2hosting.com (70.32.23.120): icmp_seq=1 ttl=46 time=62.2 ms
64 bytes from mi3-ss106.a2hosting.com (70.32.23.120): icmp_seq=2 ttl=46 time=63.7 ms
64 bytes from mi3-ss106.a2hosting.com (70.32.23.120): icmp_seq=3 ttl=46 time=63.8 ms

--- antixforum.com ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 2004ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 62.225/63.218/63.779/0.704 ms
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

Thanks siamhie,

Since I could access the website from my cellular connection but not from my cable connection, the problem is not with the forum site in general, but something to do with my cable connection.

I understand that someone checked to see if the spam software had "banned" me or my ip address and that isn't the case.

Absent something being found on the site software, I will try the following things:

0. Reboot to see if things fix themselves. If not,
1. Shutting off the modem for several hours - hoping it will acquire a new WAN ip address.
2. Changing the router MAC address to see if that yields a different WAN address.
3. Connecting my computer directly to the modem and seeing if it can connect to the site.

If those don't work, I will hope for suggestions <g>.

Thanks oops,

I have tried Safari (on iPad), Google and Firefox on two different linux computers running AntiX.
