That is very odd, I supply the MX Tools complete in AV Linux MX Edition 21.X, is this an older version based on MX 19?
No, it's the last, updated one

Hi,

Here is a screenshot from a Live boot of AV Linux MX Edition 21.1 as you can see Quick System info is at the bottom of the MX Tools

So, probably it's there, just not in your menu. In a terminal you can try:

Code: Select all

quick-system-info-mx
The script is there, I tried to add it to the menu pasting the command above, but it only works if pasted in a terminal. The "launch in a terminal" voice is also enabled. I'd like to have it in my menu because it's pretty useful, what am I doing wrong?
The command quick-system-info-mx will work when run in a Terminal as you stated. When using the Whisker Menu to launch the QSI, one of two things need to be done:
  • If using the command quick-system-info-mx in the "Command" field, then you must also enable the "Run in terminal" option at the bottom of the Edit Launcher window.
  • If using the default MX Linux command then the "Command" field is x-terminal-emulator -e bash -c "/usr/bin/quick-system-info-mx". Note that in this case, do NOT enable "Run in terminal" as shown in the below image (it won't launch the QSI if you do).
Whisker_Menu_QSI_Launcher.png

Either way will work. Take your pick.

Either way will work. Take your pick.
I'm still curious why it isn't in MX Tools which was part of the installed OS...

I wonder if the added quick-system-info-gui package that happened in early August 2022 would have anything to do with that.

The QSI GUI package was named quick-system-info-gui and is located right next to the CLI version quick-system-info-mx; both are located in /bin.

The reason I suspect the GUI package has something to do with the QSI removal in MX Tools is because when the new GUI package was installed, it had also removed the QSI launcher in my Whisker Menu (I had a missing package), although I had never checked MX Tools at the time so I cannot say that was affected too.

While the new GUI package did not install, it did remove the QSI launcher in the Whisker Menu. The reason it did not install was because I did not have the "mx-apps" package installed (it had been uninstalled because of an error I made months ago; this https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 70#p692570 link shows the details).

Probably a separate problem, but maybe there is a connection between the two?

Normally, the ...-mx was also under "System" in Whisker menu (other than "MX Tools") and the ..-gui took its place in Whisker only, just with a change: QSI disappeared from "System" and only appeared in "MX Tools" ..

(Though it's easy to install that either via terminal or MXPI or downloading the deb file.. it should've been installed by itself)

no I'm not hijacking yet another thread ... just wanted to chime in, my system came without QSI as well, it's not the threadstarter's fault

Code: Select all

quick-system-info-gui

Code: Select all

quick-system-info-mx
Just try in a terminal.

If any of them doesn't work, just install:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update ; sudo apt install quick-system-info-gui quick-system-info-mx -y
(In fact, just one is enough, say the -gui one which's the latest)
