If you install MX-21, normally on a large, maybe 32 or 64 GB, USB or external device, depending on your needs,
then you can choose systemd at boot. I haven't tried since about MX-17 or so. Should still be possible.

You will have a normal install that boots from the USB or external as a hard disk drive.
Thinkpad T430 & Dell Latitude E7450, both with MX-21.3.1
kernal 5.10.0-26-amd64 x86_64; Xfce-4.18.0; 8 GB RAM
Intel Core i5-3380M, Graphics, Audio, Video; & SSDs.
