Error when updating my packages.

#1 Post by markwiering »

Hello there,

I am using MX Linux 18.3 32-bit on my Fujitsu Siemens Scenic E600 i865G with Intel Pentium IV 2.8 Ghz, 1 GiB of RAM and 80 GB HDD.
And... I cannot update my packages any more! I haven't updated in quite a while, but when I try to do "sudo apt update", I get this:

Code: Select all

markwiering@FujitsuMX:~
$ sudo apt update

So, according to the error, it couldn't fetch the latest files due to an expired certificate. But then my question is: why doesn't this certificate get updated automatically upon trying to update the list of most recent packages? Isn't this what sudo apt update is for?

Or... am I supposed to manually handle all the internal certificates that APT uses to communicate with its servers?

Hoping that this problem would solve itself after doing "sudo apt upgrade", I found out that this command also failed and that it didn't solve anything. I also clicked on the green open box icon on the MX Linux control panel, MX Linux Updater, hoping that this program would have something built-in to handle the certificates, but this program also failed to fetch the list of the latest packages.

How do I make sure that I can fetch the latest packages for MX Linux 18.3 again using APT? :happy:

Open synaptic. Search for the terms gpg or key.

It should indicate an update to one of the gpg key packages. Update just that package, then "refresh" and update the rest, whether from synaptic, terminal or mx-updater.

This gpg key change happened a long time ago so you really haven't been updating this machine!
