... reinstallation is normally pretty benign especially if comes about as you seem to have described. :exclamation: Before you do it though, :exclamation: back things up so you can back to where you are right now. :exclamation:

I don't know what the default AVL-MXE repos are, but permanently enabling the MX Test Repo can lead to all kinds of issues.

The Steam repo isn't needed, you can install Steam from MX Package Installer > Popular Applications.

The last repo looks like one you've added, isn't being used for anything, but the fact that its a Ubuntu PPA for Impish isn't good.

Mixing and matching repos without knowing what you're doing, ensuring you can recover from a backup or Timeshift snapshot if you do, is a good way to lead to package conflicts and a unstable system.

AVL-MXE is a fine balance of additional repos tested against the MX base, when you deviate from that even more... it creates even more issues.
But maybe AVLinux knows what the problem is.

Hi,

Well first of all to prevent the NUMEROUS breakages of Windows VST Plugin support due to Wine-Staging when AVL-MXE was released Wine-Staging was held at version 6.2 which was indicated in the release announcement:
– Wine-Staging has broken Windows VST Plugin support over several updates..

To ensure WinVST is working OOTB in all provided DAWS I have decided to lock Wine-Staging
at version 6.2 and have kept a slightly older version of LinVST (3.1.5) because it seems to reliably work in both Ardour and Reaper. If you want to risk breaking it all that’s your choice and you can unlock Wine-Staging in a Root terminal with ‘apt-mark unhold winehq-staging’. If you have no idea what any of this all means leave it at the default setting and profit!
As far as the removal of avl-mxe-assistant the answer (like many answers..) is found in the AVL-MXE User Manual...:
Specific AVL-MXE Tools and Software

AVL-MXE contains several specialty Packages that are included as part of the ISO, since my work on AVL-
MXE is done in my spare time and I often do not work on it for days or weeks at a time these packages are
not contained in a Repository and at the current time are included and updated as new and maintenance
releases of the AVL-MXE ISOs are made available.
These Packages should be considered vital parts of the Operating System and not be removed:

avl-mxe-assistant
avl-mxe-user-manual
avl-mxe-thunar-custom-action-scripts
avl-mxe-openbox-extras
avl-mxe-grub-themes
avl-mxe-png-dark-icons
avl-mxe-diehard-theme

These Packages can be considered optional and can be removed at the User’s discretion:

avl-mxe-earth-theme
avl-mxe-numix-theme
avl-mxe-extra-fonts
avl-mxe-extra-plugins-dist
AVL-MXE is very much an 'install and use' thing of course you can add and subtract applications and customize how it looks but it is not intended to be an add any old extra repo you want.. It is all the goodness of MX tuned and and focused on a specific purpose and if you want to experiment with outside things it is very likely you are going to break it..

All that said you can find the avl-mxe-assistant here: http://bandshed.net/packages/AVL-MXE/al ... -1_all.deb
