[solved] Can't play games? on 19, could on 18 nvidia

#1 Post by MCreaves »

So, I just found this issue when trying to load up Minecraft. Even with a fresh and clean install, when I go to try to load the game it complains

Code: Select all

22:02:21.236 LWJGL Version: 3.1.6 build 14
22:02:21.643
X Error of failed request: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 155 (NV-GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 4 ()
Resource id in failed request: 0x4e00009
Serial number of failed request: 168
Current serial number in output stream: 168
22:02:21.643 Process crashed with exit code 1
After some snooping in google, it seems this could be driver related. I have the proprietary nvidia drivers installed via the MX Tools package. I'm not for sure what version was used in 18 when it worked, but currently, in 19 it doesn't work. I've attempted a reinstall of the nvidia drivers via the MX Tools and even tried a newer driver version apparently from the test repo and still the same. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Any ideas? I'm not much of a gamer but I do like Minecraft from time to time so I'm not very well versed with graphics and graphics errors and so forth. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Another user figured out how to fix the issue with the legacy 340 Nvidia driver not loading OpenGL, which is probably what's causing your games to not work:

After looking through those links, there is no .xinitrc in my home folder.

This worked for me, now I just have to figure out the new error loading the game lol. Thank you for pointing this out.

You're welcome. I was having the same trouble so I was using the Nouveau driver. I just tested this solution and it fixed it for me too. Hopefully it can be incorporated into preferably Debian Buster's or at least MX's package(s) for the legacy 340 Nvidia driver.

There have been multiple reports here of that issue with the legacy 340xx driver, so I'll check it Debian has a fix for it someplace--otherwise we'll try to come up with some easy fix ourselves.
