Very many thanks !!! The ubuntu routine finally cracked it, and the new display resolution works just fine.

Edit the original post and type the [solved] in the title space.

On your first post, there should be a pencil icon left of the exclamation mark and quotation marks. Click on it and you will be able to edit that post including its title.

Another questin - whic file holds all this info in the end?
I was wondering if it's possible to copy from another installation which already shows more display options?
