Can I change the track pad gestures?

#1 Post by NAS42 » Sat Dec 08, 2018 1:13 am

Is there a way to alter the gestures for the track pad? I'd like to change it so a two-fingered tap is a right-click and three-fingered tap is a middle-click, specifically. I go back and forth between Linux and Windows, which has that configuration, so it would be convenient to use the same gestures while in Linux if possible.

Thanks very much for any help!

It looks like you can set those options in the Preferences for touchpad-indicator.

Thank you for the reply Stevo! I do not have a 'Preferences' option for anything called 'touchpad-indicator' that I am aware of. I am using the XFCE desktop. Under 'Settings' there is 'Mouse and Touchpad' and this interface lets you turn off the 'Tap touchpad to click' function, but doesn't let you alter it in a way so two fingers tapping is a right-click instead of a middle-click. It appears there may be a way of doing this through the command line with xfconf, but I am not familiar enough with it to understand exactly how to use it to change this property or to be certain I even can.

You will need to load "touchpad-indicator" via mx package installer > stable repo, or via synaptic.

that is a great little program, thanks for the tip. I love how i can now disable the touchpad while typing. saves my cursor from going all over the place while i am typing :)
