(solved) install on pavilon 17

#1 Post by Be OK » Wed Jul 04, 2018 3:20 pm

:happy: Hello, run mx16 on it and want to update to mx17 a HP Pavilion 17-e107ed Notebook model 17-e107d
The problem is the 2 video cards a : Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller for vga
and a Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Sun XT [Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M
Problem is a old monitor is on the vga, but it always start up from the amd card :(
I see small part of screen on the vga so i want to set to use the intel card at the live boot and on/after install.
The problem is the laptop screen is gone (broken) so use the vga and after install vnc.
Guidance how to do this or where to look welcome.

As I undestand it, you want to disable the radeon and have the VGA via Intel as primary.
I see two ways combined or together:
You can disable the video connector with a linux boot paramter. You can find the connector name of the broken laptop screen with something like this

Code: Select all

xrandr --prop | grep -v '^\s'
It might show something like this example:

Code: Select all

VGA-1 ....
eDP-1 ...
HDMI-1 ...
to disable in the example above the internal connector "eDP-1" you would add

Code: Select all

video=eDP-1:d
i.e in the format video="connector-name":d to your linux boot paramter.
Further you can try to disable radeon with kernel paramters like
radeon.modeset=0 or a combination radeon.modeset=0 nomodeset

Fehlix that saved the day , video='VGA1' worked and mx17 is running :)
Its now again use full with vnc to work as screen.
