One of those days...

#1 Post by Eadwine Rose »

Yesterday I noticed the buttons on top of my blouse's sleeve (roll up the sleeve and secure, such a button) were loosening.. not good. Sooo.. took those off and sewed them back on nice and proper. I rarely wear them sleeves rolled up, but when I want to I need that button to be there.

This morning.. I am getting ready to make a longer trip with my scooter, 25k today, and I happen to look at my left shoulder and see loose threads.

What?? Where is the button on top of my blouse's sleeve? I sewed that on yesterday and now it is gone again??? *mutter* :confused2:

Tried to pull the loose threads out.. tight and secure. Huh.. feelie feelie.. the button is not gone, it's still there.

I sewed it on the wrong side. 9_9

So.. just now fixed that booboo, put the blouse back on, I am having a left over hole.... buttoned it up lopsided. :bagoverhead:

I think my trip is going to be just to the store and back, not going to venture that 25k today, today is NOT my day

But think of the male dilemma, the button and the hole would be the other way around!

It's of interest (maybe) why ladies clothes have the buttons and button holes reversed. It goes back to the olden days when a lady was dressed by her maids rather than by her own hands. The buttons were placed that way around for the ease of the maids whilst dressing the lady.
Not had much practice dressing ladies myself, but undressing them.....!

Oh is that why they are the other way around.

It's the same with zippers on jeans. Personally I don't mind either way around.

You'd look a bit silly wearing jeans with the zipper at the back!

Gentlemen were also dressed by their butlers. So i would search for another reason for the reversed buttons.

ITYM valets, aka "gentlemen's gentlemen." Butlers were the head servants of the household, supervising the rest of the household help including the footmen, cooks, maids and so on (but not coachmen, grooms or gamekeepers IIRC as they were outdoor help.)

I don't understand why they have buttons for 'rolled up' sleeves these days, it seems to me to be some kind of gimmick.

I recently bought 2 new shirts & they have them. When I rolled up my sleeves, they never unrolled. Been doing it since a child, with never a problem.
