Screen Resolution

Hi, I am an absolutely newcomer (even though I have passed 70 years) to Linux, so please bear over with me if I don't understand everything immediately. I must tell my configuration of MX v18.3. I am running in a Virtual Machine under Parallel Desktop on an iMAC with 5k display. Now it seems that I cannot take full - or large - advantage of the screen size. I do not achieve any choice near what I get when I tried (briefly) Ubuntu and Linux Mint. Those gave me a maximum of 2560x1440, but here I must do with a lot less. I must mention that all available settings in Parallel Desktop were the same for all distros. Is there any settting - not too complicated - that I can undertake, if necessary in a terminal window (huff)? Regards Rolf - Norway

While I will not be able to help you, beginner myself, I think I know what will they ask you next. To post some info.

In the terminal type 'xrandr' and post output here (copy/paste) encapsulated with code tags for proper formatting (see formatting menu for code tags, 3rd or 4th icone from left to the right, first is for bold, second for italic...)

Also if you click in Menu -> MX Tools -> Quick System Info, copy paste that info here also. Note, this one will already have properly set code or quote tags, so all you need to do is copy/paste info here

Total shot in the dark (I wouldn't use OSX even if threatened with a big stick) but have you installed the "Parallels Tools"?

Part of MX's "bloat" is that we ship with everything needed to build kernel modules, in case the user has one of those funky Realtek or other chipsets that don't have a kernel driver. Module-assistant is also preinstalled, just in case. Yes, the ISO is a bit fatter, but it helps if the user can't get a wired connection.

I am still around - and you are right, I am not capable of too deep procedures. But I would very much like to try, so if anyone can combine usful info and teach an old man, it would make my day!

Might add that I find a setup panel for Monitor, and there are 11 resolutions to choose from. Thing is that the largest is 1920x1200, where as Ubuntu and Mint both give possibility 2560x1440. May not seem as a big difference, but when I work on things like PCB layout program (KiCad) or mech. drafting SW, this is a notable difference. So, I still welcome any suggestions you might have. Rolf
