The basic extension install worked - but I don't like having to have an extension to add a search engine.

How do you get the + in the magnifying glass? I'm running Firefox 61.0 and as you can see it ain't there.

What? No Bing!? ;) Startpage has worked well for me. I like Duck Duck Go, but it lets me down too often.

let's clear first that if it is already installed you can't add it again, so will not see a + sign.

so, you go to qwant.com with your browser and then the + sign will appear so that you can add it since it is not added yet or installed. that's it, super easy. then you press the + sign and a dialog will appear with an option to add it. the same goes with every search engine that you haven't added yet. in case you want to make it your default search engine you follw the normal procedure and that doesn't interfere at all with your home page
here is an example with ecosia

With Google Chrome no plus sign, no extension. It was in the list of available search engines in Settings. I am not sure it was there by default as I went to their website first and maybe that triggered it being added automatically. I use Google but I will give qwant a try.

DDG. Anyone remember the first real search engine, AltaVista? Was great back in the mid 90's until they took it in another direction after DEC's demise.

Just not happy with the results in general. Maybe I'm used to Startpage/Google results, I just never get the detailed results I expect from Duck Duck Go.
