Gis Weather not loading for some reason, looking for substitute

#1 Post by Eadwine Rose » Tue May 08, 2018 1:28 pm

And I am not knowledgable enough to figure it out.

Tried to remove the config files, but where those are exactly...? Every time I rename something that I might think is it it gives a cannot start because cannot find whatever I just renamed.

Then did a reinstall (did not remove, just marked for reinstallation) who knows (it's in the test repo).

Then tried again from the terminal, and it said this:

Code: Select all

$ gis-weather
Gis Weather 0.8.2.5
/usr/share/gis-weather/gis-weather.py:66: PyGIWarning: AppIndicator3 was imported without specifying a version first. Use gi.require_version('AppIndicator3', '0.1') before import to ensure that the right version gets loaded.
  from gi.repository import AppIndicator3
Not found gir1.2-rsvg-2.0 (librsvg)
Configuration folder:
    /home/eadwine/.config/gis-weather/gw_config2.json
Widget size:
    width = 522 height = 292 including indent = 6
Your screen supports alpha
> Getting weather for 5 days
> Downloading http://www.accuweather.com/com/nl/xxxx/249235/current-weather/249235
Where xxxx is my city, of course. And yep that link is working, but things are staying stuck.

looked at the text, see it says Not found gir1.2-rsvg-2.0 (librsvg)

Installed gir1.2-rsvg-2.0 from the regular repos. Tried again:

Code: Select all

$ gis-weather
Gis Weather 0.8.2.5
/usr/share/gis-weather/gis-weather.py:66: PyGIWarning: AppIndicator3 was imported without specifying a version first. Use gi.require_version('AppIndicator3', '0.1') before import to ensure that the right version gets loaded.
  from gi.repository import AppIndicator3
/usr/share/gis-weather/gis-weather.py:74: PyGIWarning: Rsvg was imported without specifying a version first. Use gi.require_version('Rsvg', '2.0') before import to ensure that the right version gets loaded.
  from gi.repository import Rsvg
Configuration folder:
    /home/eadwine/.config/gis-weather/gw_config2.json
Widget size:
    width = 522 height = 292 including indent = 6
Your screen supports alpha
> Getting weather for 5 days
> Downloading http://www.accuweather.com/com/nl/xxxx/249235/current-weather/249235
To note: I didn't change anything to it. Nada. It just starts every time I boot the computer and it started fine earlier today. I even rebooted just now to see if MAYBE that was it, but nope.

Renamed gw_config2.json, it just creates a new one.

What it wants... I dunno.. any ideas?

It works if you use gismeteo instead of AccuWeather.
I suspect it's not downloading from accuweather because it's trying http & accuweather now defaults to https.
I'll have to check the code.

It isn't just a http:/https: issue. For some reason gis-weather is neither downloading from accuweather nor timing out as it's supposed to.
Just remove the ~/.config/gis-weather folder and start gis-weather again, selecting Gismeteo instead of Accuweather.

I renamed the folder and got this:

Code: Select all

$ gis-weather

  from gi.repository import Rsvg

That happens if you delete the ~/.config/gis-weather folder while you still have gis-weather running and try to open another instance.
Gis-weather likes opening its weather display on another Desktop from the one the setup GUI is started on, so you probably had an instance still running but hidden.

FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/eadwine/.config/gis-weather/gw_config1.json'
Does it help if you restore that folder and file?

It's automatically generated when gis-weather starts up - unless there's an instance already running.

I have opted to completely remove gis-weather, restarting, and then reinstalling. I could see where it was running as I have only one desktop and no gis-weathers running anywhere that I can find.

I have it back up and running now, just need to configure. :)

Thanks for the help!!

Stevo: too late, I got rid of that install and started completely fresh
