problem for Debian MX tester: installer can select incorrect mirror?

#1 Post by Stevo »

I got a PM on the Debian forums from a tester who had downloaded and installed 17.1 in virtualbox, but got this error with updating the apt database:

Is this just a temporary outage for the Swedish mirror, or is it worse?

Re: problem for Debian MX tester: can select incorrect mirror for antiX repo?

We don't have that mirror anymore, it doesn't show (it shouldn't) in mx-repo-manager so they can use mx-repo-manager to select another repo. There might be a problem in the live boot or installation scripts that are not up to date and have a on old list of mirrors that's not up-to-date. I don't know how the mirror are set up on new system.

they are set via the localize-repo script in apt-mx.

these are the repos defined. We just did this in September. When did we lose the mirror?

It seems that the repo address has changed

April 2017
We lost all 3 *.mxlinux.de mirrors then - about 90 days after they came online. The user who set them up apparently wasn't aware how much storage & bandwidth he'd end up paying for.

repo-manger should work though to set the correct Swedish repo.

I just got a PM saying he used Repo Manager to select the fastest repo, and it turned to be the Italian one, so everything is working. Go figure.

He wanted to install and use the MATE desktop, and wondered if it needed systemd running for the power management. It doesn't appear that it does.

libsystemd0 is a dependency for MATE desktop

Yes, but it doesn't look like MX actually has to be booted with the systemd option to run MATE properly.
