[BUG] Add packages for proper VPN support

#1 Post by Alt »

MX17 has network-manager plugins installed but user can't add/configure new VPN connections through "nm-connection-editor". He needs to add GNOME plugins (e.g. network-manager-pptp-gnome, network-manager-openvpn-gnome...) which isn't even obvious (looking at filenames like libnm-vpn-plugin-openconnect-editor.so or libnm-vpn-plugin-pptp-editor.so in dialog). So all corresponding NM GNOME plugins packages needs to be installed by default.

Not sure about that. I have openVPN running with Network Manager. The setup was without any trouble or other additions.

Just tried Live in VirtualBox. Only OpenVPN opens dialog, PPTP and VPNC complains about plugin.
P.S. No wonder, network-manager-openvpn-gnome is installed unlike the other two.

I was clarifying that standard OpenVPN is trouble free. Never tried the other two. I am sure the devs will take a look at this.

You put in a country gateway. For example swiss.privateinternetaccess.com which is Switzerland, Another example is nz.privateinternetaccess.com which is New Zealand. There are many to choose from. Speeds will vary depending on the server. I got the list with a wget command but cannot readily find it. I will continue to look. The wget download also gives you the certificate to use.

Thanks, vamsi and Rich.
Still no joy here after many attempts: could my DHCP router be blocking me?

Are you trying to use the free services that the video shows or a paid service? The configurations are different. I am unfamiliar with the video and the free VPN and use the paid Private Internet Access. I am not sure but doubt that your router is blocking.

EDIT: Deleted OpenVPN which is
and added Private Internet Access

Yes, was trying to use the free OpenVPN.
I don't really need a VPN so I will stop struggling to get one.
Thanks for your help.
