Here's my first go, using an actual photo of a thunderstorm seen at night from 40,000 ft

Just a horizontal panel; with added launchers and icon changes for FF and Home folder

Simple horizontal (should set Panel to transparent like Rich did I think now) compact layout, Hellfire Bluff and Maria Island more distant to the far right, Zephyr wreck in the foreground, usually covered in sand, October 2016

This is my desktop at the mo. MX-16 Beta 1 32-bit, running on a 9-yr old Toshiba laptop (Core 2 Duo, 2Gb RAM), using the light theme, and with a Conky that I (coughs*ahem!) borrowed from my other distro, Linux Lite 3.2, and modified, because I just love that Conky.
Mx-16 runs beautifully on this laptop, and everything I've tried so far just works.
Well done to all those involved.

Just one question - when the final is released, will I have to reinstall, or can I just upgrade from the Beta?

MX-16 Light Theme, Terrestrial Greenhood Orchids wallpaper, transparent Panel effects with Conky (verti-color/clock_stats_wifi).

Just a different wallpaper plus Conky.
