The 1.14 I made in the OBS was a direct backport from Stretch which was using GTK 3; but I pulled the 1.16 from a PPA that used GTK 2 as much as possible for the Trusty packages.

How is 1.16.0 working, by the way? I can upload the 1.16.1 base source packages from that same PPA so it'll be 1.16.1, but it will take down that repository until all the dependent packages finish automatically rebuilding.

Edit: Too late! I updated mate-desktop, libmateweather, and mate-terminal to 1.16.1, and added mate-optimus. The repo shouldn't take too long to fully come back up.

Update: Everything's back up. Apparently the OBS is using a slightly older version of tzdata than the one we get from security-updates and that caused libmateweather to FTBFS. I added a patch to fix that, but the patch would need to be removed for the tzdata we have, currently 16j. Version 16i changed Rangoon to Yangon, which caused the FTBFS. The stock source includes the change for the newer tzdata.

Here is my desktop with MX-16 RC1.
Two conkys, two panels, the left one smartly hiding as if it was a dock.

Love it. :o)

Hello everyone,

I'm a new user to MX Linux. I came from Ubuntu 16.04. I made to switch to Ubuntu from Windows about 4 months ago. Long story short: I'm from the U.S and I'm currently living in Argentina. The hard drive in my laptop that I brought with me pooped out on me, so I had to buy a new hard drive and install an OS on it. The internet connection where I am staying is VERY slow (1mb download speed, anything more than 8mb download is hard and expensive to get here without contracts, packages, etc), so downloading the install file for windows would have taken forever to download (like 4gig+ file). With that said, a friend recommended Ubuntu to me and I tried it out since the install file was about 1 gig. Ever since, I've been happy and curious with linux based distros.

Given my history with linux based distros, my command isn't too great which explains why I've left everything pretty much stock for my desktop. I've added conky manager 2 with a network and process widget. Other than that, I've just added a few things to the panel. So far, I've really enjoyed XFCE in combination with MX Linux as performance is great.

I never tried this before, but I am liking it: click Settings manager > Desktop, and uncheck "Apply to all workspaces." Now I have 4 different wallpapers for my different activity groups: work, email, web, misc. Cool.
