[SOLVED] how to make the terminal more or less transparent ?

#1 Post by calixtus06 »

Hello, I'm french and I discover MX.

I've got XFCE desktop and sometimes I would like to see through the terminal to apply a command line .

Thanks

go to mx tools > tweak > compositor tab > compositor dropdown menu choose compton > apply

add compton to "session and startup" in application autostart from whisker menu

then you will have to set the opacity / transparency in the terminal's preference .

Be aware different terminals may or may not allow transparency.

You don't have to use Compton - Xfwm compositor works fine. Just right click the xfce terminal window and select Appearance tab... as below:
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Just to piggy back on Chris' comment, actually any compositor will do the trick even old timey ones like xcompmgr.

Terminator has the option in Preferences > Profiles > Background

Not that I've ever used the option.

Run MX Tools/MX Tweak, enable the Compton compositor (it seems to have fewer issues than the Xfwm one) and click the big wide Apply button. Then right=click anywhere in the Xfce terminal, click Preferences, click the Appearance tab, and drag the Opacity slider to your desired setting. I can't say about Terminator as I don't use it, but that's how you do it for the standard Xfce terminal.

(BTW your window manager is Xfwm. Conky is the desktop clock thing.)
