it seems that there were a few programs, that were waiting to install themselves.
so I've let them through ..
then there was an update to the Grub Boot Menu as well & that then froze up.
- after the machine was Hard Shutdown,, the tri-boot menu system was corrupted.
it did take a while of messing around, as the new grub2 boot menu, was not seeing any of the changes,
& even though I'd been using both the direct / not-recommended & also the correct way(s) to set the Boot Menu.
did manage to fix it, after an hour of messing about, and it seems that I've going to have to use MX Grub Loader,
for a while, anyway - - no biggie - - just have to get used to a different graphic on the boot screen.
- - didn't lose anything & that's all that matters.

That will include the Debian 9.6 point release updates. Make sure to view Dolphin's video on the grub-pc update before proceeding!

Re: MX updated
never got to view Dolphin's video on the grub-pc update before proceeding,,
- as the Grub Updater did Freeze my machine ..
and then had to go into "manual recovery mode" in order to get the machine working, again.
-- something must have gone wrong, with the Grub Update :(
it's all working, satisfactorily ATM.
when you boot back again, a few days later - - there is another 53 updates,,
& an update that is from that crash, that was manually recovered from.
