MX 15 snapshot [SOLVED]

#1 Post by turtlebay777 »

A few years ago I made a snapshot of MX15 that was running on a PC I had repaired for a friend. If I now use that to install a fresh copy and do all the 629 updates (and update the kernel) will that be equivalent to MX 17.1? Sorry but having used Mint for donkeys years I am a little unused to some of the differences between 'buntu and Debian.

MX15 was based on Debian 8 while MX17.1 is based on 9, so that bridge would not be gapped.

Yeah, but would the 15 version be severely and dangerously out of date like using an unsupported version of 'buntu?

Support for the MX/antix side of 15 is and will still be provided here on the forum. As far as the Debian components go, they're currently "oldstable" which receives security updates for about a year after the release of the new, current stable (https://wiki.debian.org/DebianOldStable). So based on that, it'll receive security updates til around June 2018. At that point it will be handled by the LTS team (https://wiki.debian.org/LTS) and should receive further maintenance until June 2020. So yes, maybe some of the packages could be considered out of date, but hopefully not dangerously so.

MX Faqs

How long will MX XX be supported?

We are currently supporting versions of MX from 14 through 17.1 through the Forum. MX 14, is based on Debian Wheezy, and wheezy LTS will be supported from 26 April 2016 to 31 May 2018.

MX 15/16 will also be supported for several more years; currently we try and roll any new packages we can for that version too, but as it ages, that becomes less practical.

General support information is available in the Manual Section 1.4,
