Huh? You need to compare apples with apples, why you compare the linuxfs md5sum with the md5sum of the iso? The md5sum for iso is correct: 07ca304647a611b65b7aafc79a718c15 MX-17.1-RC1_x64.iso
To check the md5sum you need to run "md5sum MX-17.1-RC1_x64.iso" and compare the results visually or "md5sum -c MX-17.1-RC1_x64.iso.md5" and if the .iso is in the same folder is going to confirm if the result is OK or not.

Because that's the closest thing that matches. There is nothing in the ISO that says, 07ca304647a611b65b7aafc79a718c15 MX-17.1-RC1_x64.iso

In thunar right click on the downloaded iso and choose compute md5sum. If it reads 07ca304647a611b65b7aafc79a718c15 MX-17.1-RC1_x64.iso it is correct. That checks the down loaded file.

OK. Thanks. It's correct. I tried a live session again and there is still no panel and only the standard XFCE wall paper. I right click on the desktop and the only items that respond is the terminal and log out.

I downloaded 64 bit from sourceforge, md5 checked out good, so I burned to USB with MX tools.

I booted the signature machine a few times and am posting from it now. Sound works, eth0 works, youtube plays.
I booted with the toram option, it works and is snappy. Looks good so far.

I don't know if I can add the boot parameter rcu_nocbs=1-11 to the live sesssion to prevent the idle crashes.

So I will not install this 17.1 , but rather update MX-17 with synaptic, and use the MX package installer to update the kernel to the latest 4.15.0. In that case my edits to grub should still be valid with the newer kernel, right? Or do I need to re-enter that?

No rush to sort this for me.

On the current install (jan snapshot) I use both pulseaudio and alsa. Alsa just for tvtime.

I don't mess with any of the settings (if I do I am greeted with a hum that I cannot get rid of).

To regulate the sound I use amixer -c 0 set Line toggle, amixer -c 0 set Line 1%- and amixer -c 0 set Line 1%+ assigned to keycombos.

In this install (see siggie) when I turn off tvtime (as in quit the program) the sound mutes and the icon in the notification area gets an X. Things like VLC,browser, anything that gets regulated with pulseaudio is muted. To fix this all I have to do is slide the slider in the icon down and up to unmute.

Not quite so in the RC1. It's the same behavior, muting sound upon quitting tvtime, but the icon doesn't show the X. So instead of being able to fix it by grabbing the slider (which now does nothing) I have to start tvtime again.

I haven't tested it by turning tvtime off and then rebooting to see if the sound is back then to be honest, but this is the one issue I run into.

Again no rush, there are more important things, but I wanted to throw it out there. :)

How to update now?
Btw, Cairo-dock is no longer is software repo.?
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cairo-dock-team/ppa doesn't work for me either.
Cairo Dock is in the Popular Applications section of the Package Installer in the Docks section. I just tested it, and it installs perfectly.

Please do not add ppa's to your repositories, especially when testing early releases.

One minor item: when the Welcome screen comes up, if I click an icon/link the screen disappears for a second--and then pops back up.
Do you mean if you click, say, the Manual icon, the Welcome screen 'blinks' very quickly?

If so, that happens for me on MX-17 also.

Here are My suggestions list:-

1) When apply some themes the icons on desktop appear like this
Image
after cahnging .gtkrc2.0 file in home directory and after adding this code to the file
Code:-

Code: Select all

style "xfdesktop-icon-view" {
XfdesktopIconView::label-alpha = 0

base[NORMAL] = "#ffffff"
base[SELECTED] = "#5D97D1"
base[ACTIVE] = "#5D97D1"

fg[NORMAL] = "#ffffff"
fg[SELECTED] = "#ffffff"
fg[ACTIVE] = "#ffffff"
}
widget_class "*XfdesktopIconView*" style "xfdesktop-icon-view"
the icons on desktop appears like this
Image
My suggestion is add this code to the MX Tweak tool so that process will become simple

2) Is there any possibility to change folder color as like in mate and cinnamon we can change the color of the folder will it be possible to add color pallet to folder properties so that we can select any color and can change it like changing XFCE panel color

3) I try different themes while copying themes from internet we have to paste it into themes folder which takes some time and instead of that is there any possibility to design an option within MX Tweak tool so that the zip file can be selected and the theme can be installed from there itself (I don;t think this option doesn't exist in any distro)

4) Are there any plans to change look of MX Package installer at present the installer is fine is there any chance to make all the popular apps icon like the icons in XFCE settings manager so that it will be better visible

5) I have faced some issues with MX Updater in MX-16&17 that after using some days the updater is not working fine i din't understand why by the way when there are no updates when we click on MX updater icon it opens synaptic package manager but at that time if i want to update it it opens synaptic is there any chance to add an option such that when we lick on MX Updater only MX Udater should open i know already synaptic option is present in right click so i don't think it is necessary.
I think the newer version of Updater has automatic update which is very cool but even though if this is changed it could be much helpful

6) In Mx inux we can install different De's but i tried to install Deepin but it failed i think MX Supports it

7) Is it possible to add more startup sounds to MX Linux i like the FreshandClean sound very much which is there in MX

i think i have asked too much questions is it possible to fuilfill any of them in future or now

Thanks.. :happy: :happy: for the best distro ever

To add, all that is in my .gtkrc2.0 file is this code:

Code: Select all

style "xfdesktop-icon-view" {
    XfdesktopIconView::ellipsize-icon-labels = 0
}
widget_class "*XfdesktopIconView*" style "xfdesktop-icon-view"
Allows long file names on the desktop.
