MX-17.1-RC1 Release Candidate Feedback
Re: MX-17.1-RC1 Release Candidate Feedback
I still don't understand what problem we try to fix, "logname" provides the correct username in my experience at least when you run the program from menu or in terminal with sudo. There might be some exotic ways to run the program that don't provide the correct user name but I haven't hit that. Opening links in browser is a different issue, it's not related to the user we get with "logname".

Works great! Also good translation (to Swedish) now, only have to install Swedish language to Mozilla Thunderbird, Firefox and LibreOffice. Also manually download of Canon MG5700 drive to printer. Great job guys and girls!

Welcome to the Forum!
You're going to use MX Package Installer to get those language packs, right? (much easier...)

Used CLI, but easier with MX Package Installer. Thanks!

The screen lock for MX -17.1 RC1 is changed?
I mean the default one is pretty old in MX -17
Thanks..

Hi all
Installed perfectly to my machine, picked up other OS fine and played nicely. Always good to see. Nvidia installed flawlessly as did obs-studio and nvenc encoders.
Installed every thing else I needed with the "MX Package Installer"
Just Awesome, playing nicely with two monitors as well so I can stream ETS2 on 2nd Monitor - full screen 1080p - lovely.
Many Thanks for a Great OS
Regards Zeb...

Re: MX-17.1-RC1 Release Candidate Feedback
Here's a working (tested) solution to the "winds up launching a root-permissioned webkit browser" problem.Adrian wrote:I still don't understand what problem we try to fix
Diff your current main.cpp with this: https://github.com/antix-skidoo/antix-v ... r/main.cpp
At startup, the viewer program drops elevated privileges and runs as the "nobody" user.
ps: When launched from commandline on an antiX system, console shows a line mentioning
"inotify ... qt5ct ... file not found"
Could check existence of the file and conditionally call inotify (and/or add qt5ct to Recommends:)
In the meantime, I'll chalk it up to "harmless known issue".
Re: MX-17.1-RC1 Release Candidate Feedback
Thanks, that's an interesting approach. I said that I don't understand what the problem is because mx-viewer starts as normal user for me. Only when you click on links it opens a browser with the same permissions as the application that displayed the links but I don't see a way around that other then not displaying the links.
