Is MX-14.2 Crashable?

#1 Post by Marinos » Sat Nov 22, 2014 11:27 am

Just out of curiosity, has anyone had an MX-14.2 installation
crash/freeze/whatever while using it in a **regular** manner?
I'm asking this because in the month that I've been using it
I didn't get a single freeze-up in this old clunker I use as
my desktop PC.
Since 2007 this very same PC with the very same configuration
had been running initialy Ubuntu and then (since 2011) Lubuntu
versions and more recently Xubuntu. Oddly, all of the *ubuntus
would freeze out of the blue, two or three times a week.
I used to believe this was either because of a glitch in the graphics
driver, or, more likely, due to the capacitors of the motherboard
getting old and prone to malfunction.
Yet, since installing MX-14.2 I didn't get a single freeze-up.
I'm using it daily in precisely the same way as I used the *ubuntus
in the past, running the same apps and in the same manner.
It's a long-established daily routine. Could be that I'm very lucky
or it could be that this stability is due to MX-14.2 being based
on Wheezy Stable. Whatever the reason, I'm very satisfied with
the stability of MX-14.2, it helps in keeping my blood pressure
within reasonable limits :-) Cudos to its creators.

I never had a crash or freeze in the four moths or so of use.

None here either. The same holds true for antix-stable.

Very, very stable - desktop running 24/7. My best linux experience to date (8 years linux user).

No crashes or freezes. If anybody experience that it points most likely to a hardware issue (or misconfiguration, for example if you run out of memory and you don't have a swap partition).

I'm using it on my Jukebox computer (hooked to TV & Stereo)

Code: Select all

tim@Woody2:~$ uptime
 12:08:51 up 60 days, 21:06, 2 users, load average: 0.04, 0.03, 0.05
It has been up since it got installed on the new drive. I love the stability of MX-14 as I have with MEPIS over the years.
The old drive had failed, damaging the substantially modified MEPIS install on it too badly to recover. I was lucky, though - the home & data partitions were unaffected & the relevant data could just be copied over.

MX seems stable for me.

I dual boot with Mepis 12. But MX has never crashed on me. I had a few Iceweasel lock-ups, probably with dozens of tabs open. And even then it was probably Flash that crashed.

I just use top to kill the Browser, but the operating system keeps ticking perfectly.

Very stable here, but of course it is crashable if you try hard enough. ;) I have been running this install for months now, quite happily

I have been running MX for almost six months with no crashes. I expected it to behave same as Mepis has for several years. If I had constant crashes, I would have looked around for something more stable if I was sure my hardware was OK.
