XFCE 4.14 on MX Linux
XFCE 4.14 on MX Linux
On 12 August, XFCE 4.14 was released. This is the first major release after more than 4 years (!!!). It includes support for VSyncg, HiDPI support, improved GLX support with NVIDIA proprietary/closed source drivers, support for XInput2 and many others goodies. Is there any chance that we'll see the new stable version of XFCE in MX-19(.1)?
Re: XFCE 4.14 on MX Linux
That's the plan.

If you are adventurous and want to try installing XFCE 4.14 on MX 17/18 (Debian Stretch), read this thread starting from this post:

But better make a backup first! And note the potential issues in the said thread.

Great news! Thanks for the answers!
Re: XFCE 4.14 on MX Linux
XFCE 4.14 is a little heavier because of GTK 3 transition but that is expected. On the other hand, screen tearing is finally fixed.

Since I have solved screentearing in Firefox in MX 18.3 I would like to share my solution. Perhaps it could be of benefit for those people with an Intel driver.
MX Tweak / Congfig Options. Select: use intel driver instead of defaul "modsetting" driver (requires restart).
Advice that pointed me in the right direction I found on this website:

All my screentearing problems watching videos were solved instantly.

Re: XFCE 4.14 on MX Linux
This is a solution for Xfce 4.12, right? So why are you posting it in this thread which is about 4.14?

Re: XFCE 4.14 on MX Linux
Fixing video tearing and the Firefox scroll glitch for Intel GPU's was the primary reason we added that to MX Tweak in the first place. It was quite annoying back after we bumped up to Mesa 13.0.6. I don't know if it's in our wiki under Tearing fixes, though. AMD GPU users will see an option to add a TearFree option for their drivers, too, though IDK if we added the same thing for the proprietary Nvidia driver, since there's yet another tweak for that.carum carvi wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 3:19 pmSince I have solved screentearing in Firefox in MX 18.3 I would like to share my solution. Re: XFCE 4.14 on MX Linux
Yes, 4.12. Sorry that I posted in this thread. I was so glad that I found a solution that I wanted to post it and share my solution. This post about the beta release was the first post that mentioned screentearing, so I immediatedly posted my reaction. A few minutes later I realized my solution is already well known. Silly me. But I have been battling with screentearing on another computer for years (without a solution) hence I was so excited to share my solution...
Great though to read about the many improvements MX will have in store for us. I will surely install it...
Re: XFCE 4.14 on MX Linux
I'm glad you got it fixed, and really glad about the changes for 4.14!
