Crispier theme and font display

#1 Post by bfrost »

After latest dist-upgrade default MX-Linux theme (apps) seems lighter in color and also more flat (but not to flat, perfect) in form. Also fonts renders crispier. New themeing and font configurations done? It's absolutely astonishing (new) GUI in MX Linux 17.1 now. Even better than Linux Mint! Keep up the awesome work developers, art workers and others!

We'd like to take credit for that, but I'm not aware that we added anything that would affect the theme and font display for the main repo. Perhaps showing us what packages you updated, using the "History" in MX-Updater, would provide a clue, though.

I wonder if that's what Debian 9.5 update brought...

Note: I remember when I started using SuSE and Debian in the end of 1990. I tried to avoid WM/Desktops and if I use GUI tried to use simplest WM or FVWM. But nowdays looks are also important.

OK, Thanks Adrian, Stevo and Debian :) And keep the default themes you are using together with the default panel placement! Perfect!

Glad I wasn't the only one, I thought my eye was playing tricks on my. I didn't realize anything on my theme but my drop-down console looked funny after.
This was a little over a week ago. Didn't think much of it, just changed the font and that was it.

It may have been an updated fontconfig moving from testing to main. I think the hinting is slightly different with it. It's subtle on most machines but on one of mine it is crisper - the others I couldn't tell.

Definitely some improvements with fonts display. Perhaps also with default (light) MX-theme or instead fully appreciate greybirdish style nowdays.

Ok, so this just happened again...
This is what happened last time aswell after upgrading the same packages

Code: Select all

martin@mx:~/
$ alu ## my alias to "apt list --upgradable"
Listing... Done
fontconfig/mx 1:2.11.0-6.7~mx17 amd64 [upgradable from: 2.13.0-4~mx17+1]
fontconfig-config/mx,mx 1:2.11.0-6.7~mx17 all [upgradable from: 2.13.0-4~mx17+1]
libfontconfig1/mx 1:2.11.0-6.7~mx17 amd64 [upgradable from: 2.13.0-4~mx17+1]
Everywhere else everything looks normal.
