[SOLVED] Can't install MX 18.3 64 bit

#1 Post by CyberGhost »

Hi I'm having trouble installing MX Linux 18.3 64 bit. I have tried using MBR, PBR and ESP for GRUB but after its installed and I reboot it says no boot device found. I have tried setting boot flags on the partition but that didnt work either. It says installation was successful so I think it's a GRUB/Boot problem. But when it reboots it does also say please install an operating system. I disabled secure boot and enabled legacy. Not really sure what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas? Here are my specs:

MX 18.3 64 Bit
4.19.0-5-amd64 x86_64
HP Notebook 17-x115dx
Intel Core i7-7500U (2.7 GHz, up to 3.5 GHz, 4 MB cache, 2 cores)
8 GB RAM DDR4-2133 SDRAM (2 x 4 GB)
Intel HD Graphics 620
Toshiba 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA HDD

Update: I tried some other methods thanks to the MX Facebook group and I finally have it installed now.

Glad it got sorted! :)

Could you share what those methods were, maybe someone here might find them helpful.

Yeah I ran gparted in live mode and deleted the partition so it was empty or unallocated and then I made a new ext4 partition. Then I rebooted and went into the BIOS and made sure secure boot was turned off and that legacy was enabled. When the computer booted up I entered the boot menu order selection screen and just chose the USB stick with MX on it that wasn't UEFI. Then I booted back up into live mode, ran the installer, selected MBR for GRUB, and rebooted and everything worked just as it should. Hope that helps. Also this is for an HP 17-x115dx. Here's the specs again:

MX 18.3 64 Bit
4.19.0-5-amd64 x86_64
HP Notebook 17-x115dx
Intel Core i7-7500U (2.7 GHz, up to 3.5 GHz, 4 MB cache, 2 cores)
8 GB RAM DDR4-2133 SDRAM (2 x 4 GB)
Intel HD Graphics 620
Toshiba 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA HDD
