the md5sum would check the integrity of the iso, to see if if the download was good. stranger things have happened. a single-bit error in os-prober stored on the iso could screw things up I suppose.

Re: Installation stuck on grub install
OK, I will check it.
Re: Installation stuck on grub install
Can try to disable os-prober, to see whether this would work without other os scanner.
Either by adding to /etc/default/grub this line
Code: Select all
GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=true
Code: Select all
chmod -x /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober
by running from the terminal
Code: Select all
os-prober

Re: Installation stuck on grub install
There were other things that went wrong with that install. I opted to then skip grub, and .. well.. it wasn't pretty.
basically made a new usb with a proper check and all installed fine.

Re: Installation stuck on grub install
OK, the only special on sdb is btrfs, not sure why it hangs already on sdb1.
What I would do now - that's only to make sure it this is not a bug related to os-prober,
as I know they had some btrfs related bug fixed.
Do use latest os-prober from debian buster best on a MX LiveUSB.
get latest buster package os-prober_1.77_amd64.deb from here:
https://packages.debian.org/buster/os-prober
e.g.:
https://packages.debian.org/buster/amd6 ... r/download
On downloade package in MX LiveSystem run
Now check whether it will still hang on sdb when run os-prober.

Re: Installation stuck on grub install
Just seen sdb is a WD Green. Those have a fairly good deep idle sleep. Do you hear the WD get's "started" when running os-proper,
as I know they make some noise when the wake up. If not, you might try to mount a partition before running os-prober, e.g. mount with Thunar file manager by selecting any partition on that drive.

Now that you mention it.. I had an SSD WD drive.fehlix wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 10:28 pm Just seen sdb is a WD Green. Those have a fairly good deep idle sleep. Do you hear the WD get's "started" when running os-proper,

It took forever and a day when the system was booting to show up (and I mean in the b/w DOS like screen right at the start where you can select boot and bios options and such), just as it took a while for it to show the content when I clicked on it (it was auto mounted).
I have gifted that to my neighbor to use with Windows (no issues at all with it there) and bought a Seagate which takes about a second and then the system boots through, plus it is much faster responding when I want to look through it to find something.
