The program just runs this command:

Code: Select all

update-flashplugin-nonfree -i
link to Adobe Flash Player not found on http://www.adobe.com/ at get-upstream-version.pl line 57.
ERROR: failed to get upstream version
More information might be available at:

I don't know why it gives this error, it was working before. Basically the problem is not mx-flash itself is update-flashplugin-nonfree. Anybody knows what changed?

Could you run an experiment for me with that machine that does not connect OOTB using a Broadcom chipset?

1) install the experimental MX Network Assistant:

https://github.com/AdrianTM/mx-network/ ... 1_i386.deb

2) on the Troubleshooting tab, click first the Scan hardware button, then the Linux drivers button. Copy and save the output somewhere so you can post it later.

3) use the blacklist button to get rid of "wl"

4) see if you can connect now OOTB

Thanks--let me know what you find out.

Side note. I had a error 111 smart drive fail warning right after saying everything was ready to install. Asking me if I wanted to abort.
So I aborted and started over from scratch again.
So I reformatted again manually and still recieved that warning.
/ is 10gig ext4, /home is 80 gig ext4, /swap is 4 gig.
I said to heck with it and installed any ways. If this hard drive is failing.
Well. i guess I'll buy a SSD and start over. Just thought I'd mention the warning.
In case it comes up in some body elses install procedure.
I got this warning about disc errors after selecting my existing MX-14 partitions (root/home) for a fresh install of the latest *.iso (MX-14.1.1-pae.iso).

It might be a spurious alert as I've not experienced disc errors before. I hunted for a means of scanning but am unfamiliar with Linux utilities for this.

Given the warning I cancelled the above install pending consideration of disc health and clarification.

kindly

Mick
If you are not comfortable using a terminal, whilst still running live install gsmartcontrol via Synaptic. After install, it will appear in the 'System' menu. Run it and explore the tabbed information. The error log will be the most useful.

If errors are shown ( I will eat my hat if there are none!)

Thanks for mentioning doing the test. I feel better now. I bought this unit for my wife 2 Christmases ago and got it back when I bought her a Dell E4310 to replace it.

My Install below and the steps/posts are on page 2 of this current thread

I'm more convinced now that this error alert is a bit unusual. A full scan using gsmartcontrol as attached seems to imply the drive passed. Nothing otherwise makes me think 'drive failure'. It reproduced itself on a second live disc install so was consistent in nature. I might as well just ignore the warning and run the install tomorrow.

cheers

I agree with you tascoast. Something seems off here. If it is a bug in the installer then we might consider making MX-14.1.2 or at the least make an official announcement about ignoring the message.

BTW, when you say "it reproduced itself on a second live disc install" do you mean you got a similar disc warning that you think was bogus? Was the warning about the same hard drive or a different one?

Ah, putting it another way,
(I was intending to install on my home/root partitions that already have mx-14 from a earlier release/*.iso)
I selected the same two partitions my existing MX-14 occupies when running the latest *iso live, intending to install the newer release, and the error came up, so I rebooted and got the same thing again, an identical warning it seemed to me. The second time I took the screen shot for reference.

It's popping up the warning for this SMART attribute:

Code: Select all

SMART Attributes Data Structure revision number: 10
Vendor Specific SMART Attributes with Thresholds:
ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE
187 Reported_Uncorrect 0x0032 099 099 000 Old_age Always - 1
The criteria gsmartcontrol uses to consider a hard-drive as failing vs. what the MX14 installer uses differ.

m_pav recommended issuing a warning for the SMART attributes with 'Reallocated', 'Pending' or 'Uncorrect' in their names, that have a non-zero RAW VALUE.

I don't recall m_pav mentioning this particular attribute, so he would need to advise as to whether the warning is legit. or not.

It reports this line:
187 Reported_Uncorrect 0x0032 099 099 000 Old_age Always - 1
I am not sure how important is that, it looks like it's the number of errors that cannot be corrected by ECC, it can be a sign of failure, but I'm not a specialist in HDDs, so considered yourself warned and back up your stuff, but you can also ignore the warning. It's a "warning" after all it doesn't force you to do anything. I don't think it's a bug in installer unless somebody who knows a lot about harddisk clarifies that this is something that nobody needs to worry about, among my 5-6 harddrives I use I don't have any Reported_Uncorrect errors.

If you install on the same disk, no matter what partition you use, you'll get the same warning because that disk has Reported_Uncorrect > 0

I got the warning too, so installed on another drive - which did not produce the warning. Will try another
install on the 'reported' faulty drive and advise the results.
