#1 Post by Jerry3904 »

That's the number of downloads from the SourceForge server since the release of MX-14 to this morning, both versions combined. The actual number is higher since we have little information about the other download sources (could get it from Linuxtracker, too lazy).

No idea what that means in the long run, of course. We have already seen people come and go on the Forum. But I do think that's a pretty good number after 10 weeks.
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB

Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

I've talked it up in some of my other haunts, and those that have tried it have been impressed, for the most part. I don't see any evidence of any of them showing up here, but they're pretty self-sufficient, so that doesn't surprise me.

Given the fact that MX-14 has gotten almost zero publicity, I'd say it has been a smashing success. Only a minority of people who have tried MX-14 and are using it will show up in this forum. As UM said, experienced Linux people tend to be quite self-sufficient, and they don't necessarily join forums just to say "hello." Inexperienced Linux users who might need a bit more help getting started would probably overlook MX-14 and head straight for Ubuntu or Mint.

So unless there are serious problems and issues that need straightening out -- and MX-14 doesn't have many of those -- we probably won't hear from too many users. 20,000+ downloads is very impressive, and I'd venture to say that most people who have tried it liked it. I have seen very, very few trollish negative comments posted here, whereas I have seen lots of those on other forums when new releases of other distros came out. What makes this even more impressive is that MX-14 is essentially a new distro, not an upgrade of a previous one.

2.4GHz AMD Athlon 4600+

Wheezy-based and rock-solid stability will keep a lot of people using MX14. Not to mention it's customization abilities OOTB.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

That's quite a few downloads. I hope the downloads keep coming :-)

What intrigues me is how flat the download rate has been after the initial surge. I take that to be a result of word-of-mouth promotion, though that may be wrong.

It will be interesting to see what the results are after the Point Release.
