Apt-notifier can't count to three
As per image. Synaptic shows 3 upgrades, apt-notifier says there are 2.
I'm inclined to believe Synaptic though..

Re: Apt-notifier can't count to three
Wine 1.7.14 just got uploaded to the main CR this afternoon, so apt-notifier probably checked just before that updated and you reloaded Synaptic just after.

Re: Apt-notifier can't count to three
I get the same result as Eadwine (2 new updates vs 3 in Synaptic). In fact, my apt-notifier showed nothing until I ran apt-get update just a minute ago. Usually apt-notifier is pretty prompt, but I guess it's just a lazy Sunday.

I've seen that lots of times. I thought it was a feature.

Re: Apt-notifier can't count to three
The apt-notifier's default behaviour is to show upgrades (the number of packages that are available for upgrade if you were to do a `apt-get upgrade').
Synaptic's "Smart Upgrade" setting shows dist-upgrades instead.
You can change the apt-notifierrc's UpgradeType to dist-upgrade, to get it to act the same as Synaptic.
Change ~/.config/apt-notifierrc
from this:
It's persistent, it stays at the setting you last used.

Actually, I've been sitting on a upgrade to the apt-notifier package that would allow you to change the UpgradeType without needing to manually edit the apt-notifierrc file. It adds a third button that toggles back and forth between "UpgradeType=upgrade" & "UpgradeType=dist-upgrade".[General]

Kent, if you do that perhaps an explanation of some type is in order, a help file, accessible from the app that explains the difference.

Couldn't it just be added to the `Apt-Notifier Help` that takes you here: http://www.mepiscommunity.org/doc_mx/mxapps.html#notifyrichb wrote:Kent, if you do that perhaps an explanation of some type is in order, a help file, accessible from the app that explains the difference.

Re: Apt-notifier can't count to three
OK.. now I am getting confused.. isn't a dist upgrade a bad thing (that is what I learned in the younger mepis days; only use update, don't do dist), and now synaptic is default set to use that?
