What MX-14 will be to the public

#1 Post by Jerry3904 »

We have gone back and forth with Ladislav, the guy who runs Distrowatch, about listing MX-14, and this is his final position:
You guys need to decide whether MX-14 is:

a) a new distribution
b) a special edition of MEPIS
c) a special edition of antiX

If you cannot do this, please just continue developing MX-14 and leave DistroWatch out of this.
I have discussed this situation with the Moderators and the Development Team, and there is unanimity on the following:
  • Not listing with DW makes no practical sense
  • Once the decision is made to go through DW, the only valid choice is "c": this is a special edition of antiX. anti is the Lead Developer and MX-14 is being built on mostly antiX code.
  • Taking such a position would associate MX-14 with an active and successful distro that has been well praised, and would likely attract reviewers for that reason alone.
We see the DW announcement, and the revised website copy, beginning something like this:
MX-14 is a special version of antiX developed in full collaboration with the Mepis Community and using the best tools and talents from each distro.
We hope the Community understands and agrees with this position. Thanks.

Why can there not be a category called "hybrid"?

If there isn't one, why can we not be the ones to introduce it?

Giving the category a name might get us over the hump with people like Ladislav.

Jerry, you make good sense to me, but has WW given his agreement?

I can't think of a reason that there'd be any objections from forum members. Go with it.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

MX-14 is a poor choice. Try "google MX-14". A name a few characters longer might be better

Interesting choice for a first post...

We had a long discussion of the name which you can find if you want to search for it--it is too late to change now.

We are actually secretly being funded by Epson, so the name stays. (or is it the bike company, or that lot down somewhere in Chiapas...)

Still, I am pretty confident that Google will turn up better results once MX is released into the wild. For example, I wonder what Google gave you if you typed "Mageia" back in early 2010.

It may be too late, but I still like Mepix or MepiX as the name.
I kind of rhymes with Mepis, has the X for XFCE, and AntiX.

just my 0.02$
