Somebody would print-label a disk that's going to be obsolete in a matter of days/weeks? Seems like a waste of time and resources all around. FWIW, I label my disks covers with post-its. Plus for something like this, I would use a RW that will have many lives. Just sayin' and wonderin' why this frou-frou is even on the MX-14 agenda? Don't you guys have more important things to worry about?

I might add that linux generally has a jungle of esoteric names, from repositories to releases, the latter being hard for newbies to identify as the latest stable version for their 32/64 bit etc machine. Linux mint was one I recently encountered that seemed more confusing thatn usual with names like cinnamon, than locating something by alpha-numeric naming.

This does seem to throw up a lot of confusion and disorientation for those new to linux before they even get to using something and adaptto a different desktop environment. I'm guessing MX-14 would be great for those with an aging laptop that could be revitalised or just want an efficient OS for regular tasks, but wonder how the generic computer user would respond.

A CD label would seem like a nice start though in shifting wider perceptions away from the idea that linux is a techie tool. From a graphic design viewpoint I'd simply consider how it might integrate with a desktop background/theme/icons etc. within a broader 'house style' that crossed over to online content.


All the best though on the technical side as I wait to give this and M12 a whirl under VB and learn more.

I would think that the version setup is likely going to be preferred from where the user has previously been / spent some time. Me, I do like the antix iso versions.... but there is one thing that would clarify things a little to me.
As I see it could be wrong though.
Currently the scheming is
Fresh test / finalizing test / release / release update / release update 2
In numbers as antix
13 (alpha) /13 (beta) / 13 / 13.1 / 13.2
But typically there is a completely new release midway through the year....
In antiX numbering 13.5.
Making it seem like 13.5 is the 5th release update of 13.
So to clarify the version stepping.....
MX 14 (alpha) / MX14 (beta) / MX14 / MX14 (Rev 1) / MX14 (Rev 2)

Why does the name need to be so complicated??

I can understand the developers needing all that gibberish to keep track of their newer versions; however, (and it is a big HOWEVER) users do not need all that stuff.

MX14 Beta 1, followed by MX14 Beta 2, etc. (there are lots of numbers available), should work quite well.

Then when final:

MX14, followed by MX14a, etc.

Agree, with the exception that I'd prefer 14.1 for the finished version (or .01 if you prefer) than a letter.
