Digital reading & research texts & tools

#1 Post by manyroads »

I don't know how many folks here are avid readers and/or researchers but I count myself as both. Given my interest (which you are probably excited to discover :rolleyes: ), I thought perhaps there might be other like minded souls who would like to/ be willing to share what and how they use their PC platform(s) to meet their reading and/or research need(s). :happy:

I for one will, also, share on-line resources I have made available. Everything I will share is Free for the Downloading (I'll do that in a reply to this message).

btw. I checked and did not see a thread dedicated to electronic reading/ research (just a scattering of isolated topics on Calibre, etc.). If I am wrong, perhaps the admin will choose to move or kill this thread (Not that the admins need it, but you have my permission to do what is right regarding keeping or killing this thread.).

I have made the following Download libraries available (all are Free and, so far as I can tell, in the public domain in the US):

ebooks Literature (some 1400 texts both libraries 'should' contain the same texts)
ePub format
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nanhnkmajhdt ... a7pSa?dl=0
Kindle format
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qxwu2ia5blox ... D-lja?dl=0

History Texts ( http://www.many-roads.com/library/ )
This library contains some:
-- 540 maps (consuming 1.5GB of space)
-- 1,200 images (consuming about 500MB)
-- 11,000 texts in the ManyRoads’ Libraries (consuming 290GB of space)
-- 100 Historical Videos & Music Recordings (consuming some 8GB of space)
-- 1,400 Historical Radio Shows mostly American (consuming about 16.3 GB)

Yes, just like you I count myself as one of those who like reading and researching not only about Linux and/or technology but anything else as well. By the way, there is a thread where you can find quite a lot of links to websites regarding technology and opensource news https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... es#p412629
Without each other's help there ain't no hope for us :happy:

@manyroads,
Thank you for providing the link.
Great reading material!
Do you have any idea of the occupied disk space by https://www.dropbox.com/home/ebooks%20% ... 29-%20ePub
"/Ebooks (Literature) ePub" I have a couple of GB free but can liberate a bit more for a while.
Saludos, Richard.

Hi all.

Thank you for your interest and kind words.

@dolphin_oracle:
Your wife may also find Mendeley very helpful; it's a bit different from Zotero and also academic in nature. It works well on Linux based machines (FWIW). Here's a link: https://www.mendeley.com

@Richard:
Here are the size stats on the various directories I listed...

ebooks (Literature)- ePub
1396 items, totalling 1.2 GB

ebooks (Literature) Kindle
1394 items, totalling 1.6 GB

ManyRoads Libraries
11592 items, totalling 248.8 GB

I have other libraries as well, feel free to PM me if you have specific interests. Most of my interests are in the area of History (Central Europe especially); Religious Communities (Amish, Mennonite, Quakers, and the Holocaust); French Canada; Literature (non-copyrighted). Most of my materials are either in English or German (some French, Latin, and Polish). If I don't have the materials you seek in my digitized libraries, I am happy to help you find where materials might be hidden.
