custom liveCD failed - why?

I think my recently made custom liveDVD is no good, because my latest installation from it had two kernel panics within an hour of installation. I threw the disc out and reinstalled from an older custom liveDVD that I trust. My question is: which was more likely the problem: a bad burn or bad disc; or the remastered ISO being bad? I hope it probably isn't the latter. Would be nice if I could risk burning that ISO again.
