Eadwine, how far away from the wall is the back of the PC? If it's too close to the wall or in a confined space, you'll find the back end builds up enough pressure to recirculate the hot air back in. Another cheap trick would be to add a fan to the front of the case, many cases will have a space for a front fan but don't actually put the fan in there.

It just doesn't seem right that you're getting such temperatures with relatively small loads.

Lessee... *grabs measuring ribbon* 14cms

*moves computer forward on the desk's shelf it's on*

That bumps it up to 19cms. The case has a front fan btw.

Mind.. the temp value I gave is a peak value. The most (as in most often) I see is in the lower 60s (under load, that is, not when I am just typing here and stuff)

ER, I'm using similar MBoard and Ryzen 5 (see sig)...and this cooler has worked well for me.

Thanks Paul! That one actually appears in my comparison list. Nice and small sized given what I have to work with size wise.

Need to mind the sizes, I have enough room with the wraith Max cooler (105mm L x 108mm W), but it should not get bigger length and width wise.
I checked the weather in The Netherlands and it's 32 C with 51% humidity and I'm also assuming that you don't have air conditioning (because it's just not common in Europe). Under those conditions, nothing short of a water cooling solution is going to make any difference because you will be just recirculating the already hot, moist air. Do yourself and your machine a favour and buy a window mount air conditioner (if you can find one) instead.

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

That airco solution unfortunately over here is a no go. One it is a rental, two we don't even have windows that are ready for window mounted airco's. Those things are extremely rare in this country.

It's hotter where I am at actually ;) well over 35 outside.. humidity is reasonably at 43.

But yeah.. your argument also makes sense. Very much so in fact.

I went for the old school "it's hot and this works" solution.

Opened up the case and there is now small a fan blowing on low toward it from a good distance. Used the same thing back in the day (we're talking 2002 here) when it got to be even hotter than it is now.

Looking at the graphs and numbers it seems to be liking this setup. Good, my legs do as well.. they are in between the two

Yeah, at those outside temperatures (around here, without A/C, inside temperatures tend to be warmer than outside), even a water cooling solution will not do a lot of good as the water is a heat sink but, ultimately, the heat is dissipated via a radiator that is cooled by passing air across the radiator fins. The only long-term solution is cooler ambient (i.e., the temperature of the air in the room where the computer is located).
