The gool ol' days *chuckle*
I remember at least we WERE smart enough to put a bunch of newspapers underneath the engine parts... oof Yes that got forgotten as well a number of times in the "heat" of the moment.

Re: Cool computer and a pretty good day
In the late 1970s a co-worker of mine was an ex-US Army sergeant who'd been stationed in Italy, where he owned a Fiat 500 (which he wasn't supposed to as they were deemed unsafe for American servicepeople) and it had a small 500cc air-cooled engine that he said was held in place by two bolts, and whenever he needed to work on the engine he'd just unbolt it, carry it into his house, put it on his kitchen table (with newspapers) and work on it in the comfort of his home then carry it back outside and bolt it in again when he was finished.
He also said that the car had a maximum speed of 63 miles per hour (101KPH) and people behind him would honk their horns angrily if he was ever going slower than that, because everyone know how fast Fiat 500s were capable of going. It being Italy, everyone was expected to drive as fast as possible at all times. Especially if their cars were red.
