I saw this article about leaked NSA hacking tools targeting Windows & linux systems where the entry point for linux is samba. There seems some honorable mention of port forwarding in here as well. At least one of the remote desktop apps involves this technique.
Any comments?

Re: samba entry point
It would be prudent for folk that don't use remote desktop or file sharing to block anything coming in or going out on port 3389 and 3389 (V6).
Re: samba entry point
I uncheck the Samba checkbox in the MX Linux installer, because I don't need it.

Re: samba entry point
I do use samba to connect to Windows machines on the home network.
The home network is attached to a commercial (AT&T supplied) router.
What should I do to increase safety without losing samba file transfer?

Re: samba entry point
You don't need samba to connect to shares, only to offer shares.

Another article on the same subject with a link to Akamai white paper which contains a list of affected routers.
