4x PC Card to USB adapter: Does it make sense (power)?

#1 Post by MX-16_fan »

@all:

I'd like to add 4x USB to a laptop that has one PC Card slot (sometimes called "PCMCIA", which isn't quite correct in this case - PCMCIA is an older standard).

There's enough space for a "Type II" adapter, meaning it could fill the whole space normally used by two cards. That's why I could (theoretically) use an adapter that provides 4x USB instead of the usual 1x or 2x USB.

(The additional space available comes from an ExpressCard slot which is there also. I don't want to use ExpressCard, as ExpressCards have the tendency to auto-eject when you plug in a plug.)

I don't care about whether the card would provide USB 2.0 or 3.0.

My question is: Does one PC Card slot generally provide enough power to maintain 4x USB 2.0 or 3.0? Wouldn't make sense to have four USB ports if you can't use them safely, that's why I'm asking.

Greetings, and thanks a lot in advance for any answer :number1:, Joe
