How to create a DOS bootable usb thumb-drive

#1 Post by mmikeinsantarosa »

I've checked a couple sources and the general process I've found is to:

1-use gparted to format the usb device to fat32
2-Use unetbootin to put a FREEDos image/files on the same usb device.

After this, I should be able to boot from the thumb-drive.

I used a 2G thumb-drive and even set its boot flag.

My laptop wouldn't boot from the device after following the above steps.

more to follow.

I think it's FAT16 not FAT32...

Just checked: Scroll down to the "FreeDos" section of the Arch Wiki

Correct-a-mundo. formatting to fat16 solves the problem.
Could have sworn I tested both 32 & 16.
At least there's a look-up here now.
