Will try out your suggestions tomorrow.
While googling I found some commands, and found that the Intenso stick IS found by the OS, but if I try mounting it I get basically the same error as in Windows
commands were
lshw
lsblk
but lsusb made me certain that I knew it was the correct drive I tried to mount via
sudo mount etc etc etc...

getting the error
no media in device

I'll post the copy paste of terminal tomorrow when I'm back at it.
Thank you very much in advance

See windows screenshots below - german :( In short - No Windows can't format it, but sees it. Deinstalling / Reinstalling the drive and such didn't change that.
MX Format USB does NOT recognize the stick.

If the Intenso stick is OK . . .
......
5. If you haven't done so already, verify the MX Linux ISO on the HDD by right clicking on the .sha256 or .md5 file and select Check data integrity.
INTEGRITY is OK
....
Everything else wont work as MX doesn't recognize the stick.

If I'm not mistaken the last one is the USB stick in question. /dev/sdd
The ventoy Stick is the Verbatim Store n GO

and here I hit an issue:

Code: Select all

demo@mx1:~
$ sudo mkdir /media/usbstick
demo@mx1:~
$ sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdd /media/usbstick
mount: /media/usbstick: kein Medium in /dev/sdd gefunden.
The USB stick doesn't have filesystem and nothing I can decipher that would hint to a different FS than vfat.
Though at least it is detected as /dev/sdd, gives me hope we can save the stick.

Some more info:

I assume the last one /dev/loop0 is the new replugged USB Stick??

No clue how I should proceed now

little update.
archlinux got a thread with a hostile dude .... long story short.
The USB may have "soft ejected"

I ran lshw to see if /dev/<device> changed,
than
sudo eject /dev/sdd
followed by
sudo eject -t /dev/sdd
the sudo being very important and not mentioned anywhere.
there is no respnse no nothing.

ran tool FORMAT USB
the Stick showed up

Code: Select all

device is sdd format is ext4
label is Intenso
unmount partitions OK
hide disk from udev OK
primary partition table clear OK
iso-hybrid partition table clear OK
unmount partitions OK
bytes 0 limit 2147483648000
making new dos partition table
making new partition table OK
refresh partitions info OK
create new partition OK
refresh partitions info OK
formatting partitions sdd1
unmount partitions OK
Changing owner of partition to demo:users OK
Changing permissions of partition to demo:users OK
format partition OK
unmount partitions OK
label partition OK
Device sdd
Refresh Partitions sdd
partition to mark 1
refresh partition info OK
make disk visible to udev OK
opening Format USB again, refreshing it
the stick doesnt show up, thunar shows it as generic USB flash, can't do anything with it.

looking at dsmeg again: I see this a couple times.

Code: Select all

still at a loss what that could mean

Re: live usb won't start antiX - goes to dead screen  [Solved]

I just realized, I'm still in the AntiX subsection.
As this has nothing to do with AntiX, I'll copy paste the interesting part in the hardware section.

Relocated and put together here

To answer the original question,
the 5.10 Kernel worked perfectly
