Can not boot from Newer 5.6.10 Kernel
Tried to post this in antiX forum, but tells me it is a duplicate posting, yet can not see this posting...

Typing this from another computer, not the Ryzen 5 3400G that will not boot:

starts to boot – I get a black screen, about 20 seconds then line after line rapidly scroll.

Re: Can not boot from Newer 5.6.10 Kernel
You may need boot parameters "iommu" .. Hit the key E on grub and add among ro quiet ...
Code: Select all
amd_iommu=off iommu=off amdgpu.noretry=0
Re: Can not boot from Newer 5.6.10 Kernel
Typed e and added that info with a space after quiet.Huckleberry Finn wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 2:43 pm You may need boot parameters "iommu" .. Hit the key E on grub and add among ro quiet ...

Still have same errors listed.
Found this info enabling iommu in my ASRock motherboard - Checked it was disabled. I change that to enable.

Now these errors disappeared

Re: Can not boot from Newer 5.6.10 Kernel
Tryinstead of the two iommu=off commands
That sets iommu to pass-through mode which usually lets the kernel bypass problematic BIOS/UEFI implementations.

Re: Can not boot from Newer 5.6.10 Kernel
Thanks Tim, I enabled it in bios/uefi. I am presuming iommu will not create problems in the antiX system I am trying to run.timkb4cq wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 7:16 pm Tryinstead of the two iommu=off commandsCode: Select all

I am guessing that there must be something missing, or not right to let my Ryzen gpu not load or display the graphics screen properly.
I can load and run MX-19.2 ahs with kernel 5.6.0-02 but I could not run the 5.4 antiX kernel in this ASRock motherboard. Looks like 5.6.10 will run, much different results than the 5.4 kernel I kept avoiding.
Using the 5.6.10 kernel I can sign in, unfortunately startx fails. Guess I am going to use the antiX-19.2-4.19_kernel_x64-full Hannie Schaft 6 April 2020 for a while longer.
I was on 4.9 kernel as I could not do a kernel update until anticapitalista released a standalone Hannie Schaft version with the 19.2-4.19_kernel, what I am using now.
Thinking out loud: I could run inxi -F from a command line since i can sign in with the newer kernel... lets try that...

Re: Can not boot from Newer 5.6.10 Kernel
I have a Ryzen 7 2700u w/ Radeon Vega mobile graphics and I need these boot codes to boot correctly.
Not exactly the same as yours, but close enough that it's worth trying.
Code: Select all
amdgpu.noretry=0 amdgpu.dc=1 iommu=pt

Re: Can not boot from Newer 5.6.10 Kernel
I do not know how to copy and post from the inxi -F command without a mouse, but it shows no graphic driver.

This may be useful (in fact I'd post it at the very beginning).
