@moltke,
Please post your /etc/fstab contents.
I use the defaults option on mine; but,
if you add noauto after defaults then it won't mount at boot but should when you click it in Spacefm.
Note: if using defaults, then will also need
to add after defaults:
owner - if you are owner
user - if you want to allow others to mount
HTH
First of all, sorry for the late, late ... late reply, been kind of busy. I use the defaults in mine too, mostly because I don't know much about that and honestly never have had to use any extra options before since I've been able to (as far as I recall) in every distro I've tried mount that same usb hdd in the file manager. Just to be clear; problem is that the HDD won't mount via file manager (spacefm, rox) when clicking on it, instead I have to open a terminal and mount it manually, which I don't really mind that much but still ... also, this behaviour changes/ends if I install a DE i.e xfce4, which I did, I open thunar/spacefm, click on the USB HDD and it gets mounted, it still fails to mount in rox though.
I don't think it has anything to do with fstab, however, here's the contents of it:
Code: Select all
# /etc/fstab: static file system information
#
# Created by make-fstab on Mon Sep 23 13:10:22 -04 2019
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump/pass>
# Added by make-fstab /dev/mmcblk0p1
UUID=F6F6-E70B /media/mmcblk0p1 vfat noauto,uid=1000,gid=users,dmask=002,fmask=113,users 0 0
# Added by make-fstab /dev/mmcblk0p2 label=swap
UUID=405b83ef-525e-44af-8f5e-9bffee96f062 swap swap defaults 0 0
# Added by make-fstab /dev/mmcblk0p3
UUID=07A0-6A3F /media/mmcblk0p3 vfat noauto,uid=1000,gid=users,dmask=002,fmask=113,users 0 0
# Added by make-fstab /dev/sda1
UUID=473ADE5F06DA01C1 /media/sda1 ntfs-3g noauto,noexec,uid=1000,gid=users,dmask=002,fmask=113,users 0 0
# Added by make-fstab /dev/sdb1 label=antiX-Live-usb
UUID=5d2a8f98-7c71-411b-b247-11f6712b8064 /live/boot-dev ext4 noauto,exec 0 0
# Added by make-fstab /dev/sdb2 label=antiX-uefi
UUID=7994-CE84 /media/antiX-uefi vfat noauto,uid=1000,gid=users,dmask=002,fmask=113,users 0 0
# Added by make-fstab /dev/sr0
/dev/sr0 /media/sr0 auto noauto,exec,users,ro 0 0
And this is the fstab from antiX with XFCE where the usb hdd does mount if I click on it in thunar/spacefm but fails in rox, which I can't do in the other with no xfce but the defaults wms in spacefm and/or rox.

As you might have noticed, they look the same so again, I don't think the problem's here unless there's something I'm not seeing, which I doubt but if so, please do tell me.
