Can anyone confirm that Buster's version of Compiz doesn't work on antiX 19? It crashes X when I try it in a virtualbox install--seems to have something to do with dbus, which hooks into systemd somehow. Compiz does work in a vanilla Buster Debian XFCE install I did in Vbox.

(In General) All you need to do is go on updating as ever.

Code: Select all

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
By time it will turn into stable "silently". (No signs or notifications as "beta1" "beta2" or "stable" etc..).

The difference is; by the date the stable .iso is available, you'll have reached that point step by step (updating) and someone else at once (downloading the latest iso that day..)..
Thank you for the i was information. I hope that at some stage there will be an update notifier like MX, unless im missing something

Regarding the Black Screen of Death issue on my system, it's still there in beta 2 but only in the 64-bit version. Booting stalls for 3 minutes at "start X" then prompts me to press atl+F1 to see the boot error, which is that slim didn't start. If I press alt+F10 to return then alt+F2 to do a console login I can manually start slim and get the GUI desktop.

If I boot from the 386 version I don't have the issue, slim starts as expected and I go right to the GUI desktop.

Both boots are from a live USB created with MX Live USB Maker and booted with no persistence and with all of the default boot parameters and options. All I did was hit enter at the boot menu.

I just have the onboard graphics card. It's a ASRock A780GM-LE motherboard and I have 8GB of DDR2-800 RAM installed.

Tested from the antiX19 b1 x32.
And the /etc/initrd-release, and /etc/lsb-release files seem to not be updated (the PRETTY NAME still to the antiX19 b1 version in my conky = "antiX19-Marielle Franco), is it normal ?

The conky related line:

Code: Select all

${color4}${alignc} ${execi 86400 cat `ls -atr /etc/*-release | tail -1` | grep "PRETTY_NAME" | cut -d= -f2}

I think, yes. I guess, it will become finally "Antix...19.0" (without indications, beta, stable etc.. when stable is released)

I just did a frugal static install on my dektop PC and I don't have the slim/x11 issue. There's something about slim within the USB's squashfs not wanting to start on my system until after I've logged in, like it's not starting at whatever that particular pre-user run level is. I've tried it with two different USB sticks, different USB (2.0, I don't have USB 3) ports and both the 32- and 64-bit versions. It works fine after antiX 19b2 has been installed and after a frugal install, but not when booting directly from the USB.
