dolphin_oracle,

Still have no sound Icon shown in Panel after synaptic update and new boot.

Finally Correct video card is still chosen in b2 Control Centre and sound test works properly...
XMMS now plays MP3 file.

Odd - Google Chrome has no sound - Firefox plays video with sound
Youtube plays in Firefox (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCSSPx2chnQ)
Vimo plays in Firefox (https://vimeo.com/339286127)

Thanks for your assistance will try a Google web browser reinstall to see if that fixes sound in Web browser...

Code: Select all

d_O and anti,

As I posted a few posts up, I am still having sound problems with the beta2.
namida,
Are you getting sound from other devices? Like playing songs in XMMS or sound from youtube videos?

I am still having sound problems on my old Ryzen with the beta2.
I had it working mostly by installing pulseaudio, but it has regressed, and now does not work again (even XMMS).

Without pulseaudio, I was able to hear sounds by manually configuring XMMS.

Xecure helped me over on the AntiX forum, and I had XMMS, youtube and Audacity all playing sound, but I am now regressing (no other changes made) and no sound again.

https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic ... e/page/7/ posts 24775-24807

When I get home tonight, I will try the above recommendations and try on a fresh install if needed, it is so quick to install from USB!
Something seems weird, as this hardware works well in MX-18 and under earlier AntiX versions (16 and 17) with no special configurations needed. I think on 17 I needed to use the sound card selector, but then it all worked, unline the current beta. namida and I are both with Ryzen chips and Asus and ASRock motherboards.

Entropyfoe,

Second reboot after update I now have Sound Icon in panel.

Still have no sound opening Google Chrome web browser to play youtube video.
However after opening Firefox ESR and copying link from Google Chrome sound came from speakers. Rebooting Google Chrome and selecting same video it will play properly.

New boot and using Google Chrome web browser choose any youtube Video - I have advertisement sound, but afterwards no video sound.
Play MP3 with XMMS and then opening Google Chrome youtube video sound plays.

Tis odd...

namida12,

Yes this is strange.

With help from Xecure over on the antiX forum, I had everything (XMMS first, then youtube on firefox, and audacity) working with sound.

Last night, those three did not work, and I checked a few things, seemed correct, as I had set them. The only change was I suspended and woke.

I may do a fresh install of beta2 if the suggestions above don't get sound back.

This same hardware works well in MX18.3 and earlier antiX versions. And it seems to be changing spontaneously.

The main changes from MX-18.3 and antiX-17 is the change to buster base.
eudev (on antiX) also got updated as did the kernel.
Do you have the latest 4.9 kernel installed on antiX-17 with sound fully working?
Can you try Debian buster to see if the issue is also there?

anti,
I was wondering if this was a buster thing.

What latest kernel would you recommend for my hardware?

In the beta2, I am running this antiX kernel
Kernel: 4.19.0-5-amd64 x86_64 bits: 64

I no longer have my antiX 17 installation, I over-wrote that partition to do MX and antiX beta testing. On my main machine I keep one install on the first three partitions, and use the fourth partition for testing. So, I get a stable system and an experiment on the same hardware.
I suppose I could try and recreate a new 17 install.

A debian install, too far afield for me, the learning curve will take me some time.
I have a few things to try tonight as recommended above.

I'll do that first, and report back.
I just thought it interesting that namida12 is also experiencing sound problems with a Ryzen machine.

That isn't an antiX kernel. Our 4.19 kernel is now at version 4.19.52.
We also have 4.9.182 and 5.1.11 to try.

Which should I try in your estimation?
I got it from the antiX repo.

There are so many kernels, and it is not clear what are the differences.
I started the beta testing with the 4.9 but up dated to the 4.19.182.

Should I use the 4.19.52?

Noticed sound test in persistent usb install I posted in the AntiX forum accessed by antiXcc <antiX control panel/center> . The terminal crashes while opening. Might be a usb thing for me though.

Usb installs are picky and tricky. I am learning though.

rokytnji.1, when you say the terminal crashes, you mean a terminal opens up, flashes, and closes in a couple hundred milliseconds, too fast to read anything?

Thats what happens when I run the TestSound in the Control center, the terminal flashes.
That is when the ALSA mixer is set to a wrong device. When the device is set correctly, then the terminal appears, the sound test runs, with various channels/tones and durations. But NO sound comes out.
But I can get XMMS to play correctly.

Then I configured audacity and got it to play sound, but it did NOT play after a reboot, and I can't get it working, even though it looks like the card and device are configured correctly.

Device HD Audio Generic
chip Realtek ALC1220
(hw: 1,0)

XMMS sounds good after the reboot, but nothing in firefox (ESR) on youtube , silence, even though the bar moves in pulse audio pavucontrol, while the youtube is silently playing.

So, still no browser sound, and intermittent sound on audacity, failed after a reboot.
