It seems to help me with my typing accuracy!
Edit: Has anyone tried changing from slim to lightdm to see if that clears things up?

I can tell you the problem does not occur with lightdm.

perhaps, but slim is integrated with the antiX system in some tight ways. lightdm is not.

I have an odd, repeatable, startup failure on this alpha.
I made the flash drive with mx-live-usb-maker.
With the normal text scrolling by, changing resolution twice, It boots into a GUI. Looks good. Conky is running. But the session is non-functional. The mouse works - you can open and navigate the menu but nothing you click on (or select & press Enter on) will open.
<Ctrl><Alt><F1> -> login as demo -> startx
That session works but has no wallpaper, conky or desktop icons. I'm typing from it now.

I did test the boot Rescue Entry (had to switch menus first as was indicated) and they work nicely. Was able to boot into (as root) an old forgotten MX-15 partition on my data drive from which the home partition had been wiped and reused for data.

try using the debian testing version of slim. the version on the antiX iso is hosted on antiX. I've been getting better results with the debian testing version.

Problem trying to install LightDM, it needs systemd plus you cannot have two login managers running at the same time so one has to go bye bye.

ok, went back to the antiX slim due to some theme stuff that appears to be different, but I took the initscript from debian and am using that. working better...but I haven't been able to test enough to know if its a solution. one thing...slim starts earlier with the debian initscript, maybe too early.

We've been using it locally since early '18. Mentioned it here topic/login-manager/#post-5364 but only "rust_collector" and scant few other users seemed interested, so I haven't really promoted its availability.

Thank you. The Buster slim with the antiX slim.conf (the first time I mistakenly let the debian conf file overwrite the antiX version) does work much better. One login - working session.

I won't be that much help, but ISO appears to boot flawlessly in VirtualBox with the same virtual machine settings I use for an installation of MX. Remarkably error free kernel log. EVERYTHING works. Only issue detected is I can play a sound once in a terminal with play /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav but the second time I try to play a sound the terminal locks up. Doesn't spawn any errors. I can x out of the terminal just fine. That ends sound for that session until I reboot. This problem does not manifest itself in the 17.3 or earlier or MX ISOs. VM sound settings are default ALSA ICH AC97.

Boots much faster than 17.3 ISO. In fact, fastest full ISO I've booted of any distro. Nice piece of work. That's all I have time for right now.
