Re: volume keys not working
My guess is you opened up the user desktop session settings. there is a bug that creates a startup file, but its blank. remove ~/.desktop-session/startup, logout and login, and your volume icon should return (by default, the wifi icon doesn't appear).
BTW, the volumeicon actually supplies the volume key functionality as well.

Re: volume keys not working
i don't have a ~/.desktop-session/startup file just [default-desktop/desktop-code.0/finished-first-run/log/ppid.0] deleted all but still same problem
other thing, i don't have a desktop with the IceWM desktop or the others (only with Rox-Fluxbox desktop)
the hotkeys worked changing the #Set Volume in ~/.icewm (XF86AudioRaiseVolume, XF86AudioLowerVolume)
is there something to modify in ~/.icewm to make it work?
cheers for your fast answer

Re: volume keys not working
yes, the same app that supplies the volumeicon supplies the functionality for the volume keys. once that runs, they should come back.
not all the desktop options have icons, but the rox-* and space-* options should. If they don't something has gone truly haywire. are you using stable(jessie) sources or one of the other options (testing or sid)
