First Impressions of MX-18

#1 Post by BrunoCGL »

My first impression on mx-18 was a nice desktop and great installation process.
Upon further use I'm beginning to find it a well put together distro with or without all the bells and whistles that some have.
I have tried many different linux distro's and this seems to be the one I'll use from here onward.
Very pleased with the great work the developers have done.

hi! Happy new year, everyone.
I only took a peek at MX18 (in distrotest) and the first impression I got was it was a continuation (continuum :-)) of the previous version. I've read here in the forum that basicly MX 17.x updates itself to 18 and it's a good thing, dispite the previous scare I got from the grub update :-(. When I back everything up I'll probably will enlarge my partition and do a clean MX 18 install.
My very first impression was that the developers really pay attention to what people say here in the forum: I suggested (not even on a dedicated thread, it was a comment among other things I said) that the "tweak" icon from the MX tools that show up in the first time the OS runs should be clearer to people that have no idea what it does dispite the very clear icon. And voilá... I have no idea if the developers and the same idea as me or thought I had a good idead the icon0s description now reads "Tweak (Panel, etc.)". So, you know, newbies that don't like or are not used to the panel bar on the left can put it where they are used to..
A bit off topic:
A similar thing happened over in antiX (once again, it may have been coincidence) - I commented on the "ugly" default looks of the OS and now (I haven't tested it but read about it) it comes with the ARC theme available (similar to MX) and the option to install ubuntu fonts (several people complained about antiX ugly fonts, not me).

Even more off topic: has anyone tested how much RAM MX18 with icewm takes on idle? I may end up using that over antiX on my desktop PC if it's similar (fluxbox antiX 16.2 runs on 100 Mb RAM on idle there).

P.

I have distro hopped for ages and landed on linux mint as my main distro. A friend of mine suggested I try MX Linux, and boy was he right. After trying about 10 different distros, this is the one!
Looking forward to having this as my daily OS!

Dell Inspiron 7559 16GB RAM 1X 256GB SSD & 1TB SSD MX KDE 21.1 & Windows 11
