etckeeper implements a simple and (IMO) brilliant idea. It puts /etc under version control (git being the default VCS) , making it possible to track changes to the /etc tree.
I've been thinking for a while how to to achieve something similar but I just didn't think of version control... although it seems rather obvious with hindsight! I will probably not use etckeeper as such but I will borrow some of its ideas to keep track of my changes to /etc.
