Plasmoids can't be removed!

#1 Post by davemx »

Having discovered the "Enable Popup" option for Quicklaunch, I decided to tidy up one of my panels, grouping applications. I found that none of the plasmoids nor the desktop apps dragged onto the panel had a "Remove" option in Edit Panel mode (apart from one I'd just added). I dragged one onto the desktop, and when I held down the mouse button on it, the little pop-up at the side enabled me to rotate it, resize it, but not to delete it. The only solution that worked was create another panel, drag the plasmoids/icons onto that, then delete the whole panel. Very strange indeed!

I boot between MX KDE, MX Xfce and other linuxes, and on one of the others, running KDE5.22, this never happens, but I don't want to mess about with that in MX, and I realise that with Debian Bullseye on its way, we'll be using KDE5.20 soon, but I'm wondering if it's a something I did (which actually is very likely), or a bug in MX/Debian's version of KDE. We'll soon see!

Can you right click on the widgets/plasmoids? A context menu pops up.

To delete a plasmoid, (widget)

1. Unlock widgets
2. Right click on the panel and then hover your mouse over Panel Options.
3. Choose Configure Panel.
4. Hover over the plasmoid to delete with your mouse and then "Remove"

That would work for plasmoids in the panel. Not sure about those placed on the desktop.

I am able to right click on the desktop ones to remove them.

Note to OP: Plasma's active development means that they are tweaking the user interface all the time. So it might not be a bug with Buster's/MX's plasma version.

@asqwerth
I read his post as wanting to tidy up the panel. For desktop it is different as you indicated.

The point is that I knew exactly where the Remove item or icon should be but it wasn't there!

Please post your Quick System info found in MX Tools. As that Remove function is certainly there in MX KDE.

I know it's there. It's on all new plasmoids I added. It had only disappeared from those I put on before a certain time. I know how to fix it, and I posted wondering if it had happened to anyone else. I'm not requesting help.
